New Beginning

I sensed a turn that changed my life

A turn from all the daily strife

A new beginning, brighter days

From troubled past I’d turn away

Drank no more poison from that flask

Please help me Jesus, make it last

Jesus told me to look ahead

But I kept glancing back instead

My ol’ friends couldn’t understand

Why I wouldn’t join in their plans

My past needed to stay just that

Lookin’ forward, no lookin’ back

As I emptied out the old

He began to make me whole

Jesus covered ev'ry sin

Conquered death to live again

The struggles came, they didn’t leave

I couldn’t rest on just believe

That tortured soul, once trapped inside

The me that was…just had to die

So, could I leave my past behind

Would sinful thoughts ever leave my mind

I prayed each day, Lord get me through

My fragile faith was oh so new

I felt so strange, not like before

Could I close that chapter’s door

As I emptied out the old

He began to make me whole

I couldn't know what was in store

But knew it wasn't like before

God’s Holy Word will show the way

He'll get me through another day...

Yeah...need to take it day by day
